LITTLE ROCK —Those who ventured to War Memorial Stadium this past weekend were treated to some very exciting high school football. Although the top-ranked teams in each classification prevailed with perfect records, each player on every team left it all on the field.
Little Rock Parkview is by far the fastest team we’ve seen in action all season. Quarterback Eric McGehee, voted the game’s most valuable player, hooked up the entire night with speedster Monterrio Elston as the 5A champions ran through the Shiloh Christian secondary en route to a
55-12 victory. The Patriots capped off a perfect season with a 14-0 record under coach Brad Bolding,
In the 2A championship game, it was Bigelow who also kept their record unblemished at 14-0 with a 28-14 win over East Poinsett County. Panthers quarterback Rhett Neumeier was voted most valuable player, as the Bigelow defense held EPC star running back Dennis Gaines to just 53 yards on 19 attempts.
The much anticipated 7A championship game between northwest Arkansas foes Fayetteville and Bentonville also proved to be the closest. The Purple Dogs backed up their top ranking in the 7A with a hard-fought 22-16 win over the Tigers from Bentonville, also capping their season off with a perfect 13-0 record. Fayetteville quarterback Drake Lindsey was named the game’s MVP.
Perennial powerhouse Greenwood took the 6A crown with a 41-23 win over Little Rock Christian. The Bulldogs also finished with a perfect slate at 13-0. Greenwood quarterback Kane Archer was chosen the MVP in this one.
This Saturday, Harding Academy will attempt to improve their 14-0 record against Rivercrest in the class 4A championship game. While there are no perfect records to protect in the 3A championship, it will be a highly contested one between Booneville (11-2, 7-0) and Prescott (13-1, 5-0).
